Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has inaugurated the second phase of the largest combined cycle power plant in the Middle East.

Six steam units of Shohada-ye Pakdasht (Pakdasht Martyrs) plant, built with an investment of over EUR two billion, were inaugurated by the Iranian president in the northern Iranian city of Pakdasht on Tuesday.

At the inauguration ceremony, Ahmadinejad said that the Iranian nation enjoys the potential to rise to global fame in every field. “The great diligence of the Iranian nation can [help] overcome all obstacles,” he said.

“Today, our duty is to build Iran with our own perseverance and prudence,” the Iranian president added.

All the equipment of the plant’s steam units including turbines, generators and boilers have been made by Iranian experts. The plant has 12 gas and six steam units.

The 2,868-megawatt Shohada-ye Pakdasht power plant increases Iran’s electricity production capacity by six percent.

The plant will provide 50 percent of the electricity needs of the three Iranian provinces of Tehran, Qom and Alborz.
