The letter which was addressed to the Iranian Majlis (Parliament) firmly questions the originality and validity of what Hamid Rasaei, member of Parliament andan aide of Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad harshly said during an open session of the majlis. They have registered a lawsuit against Rasaei.
As his sayings were being aired by the nationwide Iranian radio, the hardline MP called Rafsanjani's household an “octopus family” stressing on their alleged pressure on the judiciary branch to release their detained son MahdiHashemi Rafsanjani.
Mahdi Hashemi was already convicted by the judiciary for “fueling the turmoil” caused after the [disputed] presidential election of 2009 in Iran]which reinstated Ahmadinejad for the second term.Mahdi was formerly in the UK and voluntarily came back to Iranand facedthe charges. He was later released on bail and is awaiting to stand trial.
In recent years some personalities and factions affiliated more or less to Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have attacked Hashemi Rafsanjani and his family, particularly after the last presidential election. His youngest daughter Fa’ezeh, a former lawmaker and reformist political activist is now serving her prison terms for what was called by the judiciary as anti-government propaganda.
A part of the letter sent by the public relations office of the Expediency Council reads: “Laying accusations and insults against Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani and other close allies of the late Imam Khomeini is not something newand dates back to some fifty years ago, at the beginning of the Iranian people's struggle against the former tyrannical regime [of Pahlavi].”
“But whatever occurred during an open session of the Majlis on Thursday, December 18 led Hashemi family to say something not simply in defend of themselves against the accusations, but in defend of the Islamic and humane morality which is under attack by the deceived or foolish persons.”
“During all these years all people have found out that Ayatollah Hashemi has met all such defamation acts with generosity and the most significant issue for him is to strengthen the national unity and a return to moderation and adherence to the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The other part of the letter asserts: “The enemies know that calling one of the long-standing allies of the Iranian Revolution as “the roots of all evil” and “octopus” will make suspicions and hesitations in the minds of people against the Islamic Republic system.Ahose who suffered detention, tortured and exile to establish this system … and for example appointed to lead the supreme advisory council of the country [the Expediency Council] in several rounds.
Earlier a number of key figures of the Iranian Revolution had warned that a project is underway to eliminate Hashemi Rafsanjani. They said that insulting the prominent characters of the first generation of the revolution puts a long-term negative effect on the minds of young people during the next years.
