Exhibit displays Kiarostami, Warhol video arts in Tehran

Giving details on the project, Amir Raadone of the two curators of the exhibition said: "The selection process took a rather long time due to the enthusiasm of video artists and numerous works we received."
"Fortunately most of the works we received have considerable merits, as we faced with difficult choices. On the other hand we had cultural limitations in picking a number of video arts. The selectedworks of the Iranian artists were among the works of 80 participants," he added.
Referring to various sections of the project "What We Talk about When We Talk about Video Art"Raad stated: "The works have participated in three sections, The Early Video Arts, International Artists and The Iranian Artists, from January 6," ISNA reported.
Raad who is an artist himself is curating the exhibition in cooperation with Mohammad Shirvani: "The international artists were often invited directly. For The Early Video Arts section we drew on various archives, however some first videos are protected by copyright and we could receive the right for their screening."
In The Iranian Artists section the works of Hamid Afkhami, Ali Reza Amir-Hajebi, MarjanAndroudi, ShadiAfshar, Bee & Ba (Pendar and FarazNaser-Sharif), AvishanPir-Ali, Elham Haj Ahmadi, Sara Rahimzadeh, Reza Talebzadeh, HamidehRazavi, NoushinZarnaan, Hamed Sultan-Nejad, Armin Shirvani , Mahdi Sadr and others have been put on display.
International Artists section features the works of Ivana Basic, Cristobal Catalan, Rebecca Conroy, Martin Blundell, Bob Kaputof, JonathanBritnell, Chico Santos,Lino Divas and other artists.The celebrated Iranian film director Abbas Kiarostamiwho won the coveted Palm d'Or of Cannes Film Festival for his ‘Taste of Cherry’ in 1997 is partaking in this section as well.
The works of prominent video artists including Nam June Paik, Bill Viola, John Baldessari, Bruce Nauman, Wolf Vostell, Paul McCarthy, Ira Schneider, Peter Campus, Steina and Woody Vasulka, Vito Acconci, Richard Sera, Andy Warhol and….comprise the Early Video Arts section.
The outstanding American visual artist Andy Warhol and avant-garde filmmaker was extensively engaged with video art and made more than 60 films during his career. One of his most well-known films is'Sleep', which depicts a poet sleeping for six hours.
"What We Talk About When We Talk About Video Art" exhibition will be runningby January 18, five days a week (not including Saturday and Wednesday).
