During the Thursday meeting in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, both officials underlined the need to employ the potential of all regional countries to restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian nation and confront Israel’s expansionism.
“It is the policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to support all efforts to help the Palestinian cause materialize,” Salehi said.
He added that Iran, as the rotating president of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), is ready to cooperate with Arab League on Palestine.
Al-Arabi, for his part, described Israel’s occupation of Palestinian lands as the biggest challenge in the Middle East and called for continued consultations between the Arab league and Iran on the Palestinian issue.
Regarding the situation in Syria, both sides exchanged viewpoints on solutions to the ongoing unrest.
Salehi stressed Iran’s policy, which calls for the realization of public demands through a domestic solution, non-interference of foreign parties, halt of violence and start of national dialog.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil.
The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.
