An oil refinery in the central Iran will see its gasoline output more than treble after fully undergoing development and renovation in the near future.

“After its development, gasoline production in Shazand Refinery will jump from 4.5 million liters per day (mlpd) to 16 mlpd,” Ali Akbar Shabanifard, governor of Markazi (Central) Province where the refinery is located, said on Tuesday.

He added that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to inaugurate an octane improvement facility in the refinery.

“After this unit becomes operational, the premium gasoline production will rise from 1.2 million liters (ml) to 3.2 ml,” he added.

Shabanifard noted that Shazand Refinery is the first treatment facility converting fuel oil to high-octane gasoline in the Middle East.

He said the refinery’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production would reach 2,000 tons per day from 500 tons after development.

The treatment facility produces gasoline, liquefied gas, propylene, kerosene, gasoil as well as fuel oil and tar.

The refinery has been renovated through investment of USD3.3 billion by the National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction Company (NIOEC).

Iran attained self-sufficiency in fuel production after its international suppliers stopped selling gasoline to Tehran under US pressure.
