“The Fordow site [located near the city of Qom] will never be shut down,” head of the Majlis Foreign Policy and National Security Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Sunday.
The major powers are reportedly planning to make the offer during talks scheduled between Iran and the six powers of the P5+1 group - the US, France, Russia, Britain, China, and Russia plus Germany - in Kazakhstan on February 26.
“…the point is that the closure of Fordow is basically unacceptable and in our opinion Fordow is a center which will be never shut down,” Boroujerdi noted.
“This proposal means helping the Zionist regime [of Israel] to carry out its threats and threaten our facilities. Although the Zionist regime would never dare to do so, we should not create conditions in the country to tempt the enemy,” the lawmaker stated.
The US, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
The US and its European allies have used the unfounded allegation to impose unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Iran rejects the allegation, arguing that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence showing that the Iranian nuclear program has been diverted toward military objectives.
