"The Islamic Republic of Iran is seeking maximum expansion of ties with all countries, specially the revolutionary governments and nations like Nicaragua, and we believe that if we expand our relations, our power will increase and we will be able to resist against the aliens' pressures more and change the world to the benefit of our nations," Ahmadinejad said during the meeting on Monday.
"We are happy that today revolutionary thoughts are spreading in Latin America, and this indicates victory, progress and a future better than today," he added.
Rene Nunez, for his part, appreciated Iran's progress in different scientific and industrial fields, and said that the Nicaraguan government is aware that it should defend Iran's rights at international circles and has always condemned the western sanctions against Tehran.
Iran has been seeking to boost its ties with Latin American countries in recent years to the concern of the United States.
Since taking office in 2005, President Ahmadinejad has expanded Iran's cooperation with many Latin American states, including Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Brazil.
The strong and rapidly growing ties between Iran and Latin America have raised eyebrows in the US and its western allies since Tehran and Latin nations have forged an alliance against the imperialist and colonialist powers and are striving hard to reinvigorate their relations with the other independent countries which pursue a line of policy independent from the US.
