In a phone conversation on Monday, Mammadyarov invited Salehi to Azerbaijan for a formal visit.
Accepting the invitation, Salehi said he would visit the neighboring country at the earliest opportunity.
The two foreign ministers also discussed bilateral ties and the latest regional as well as international developments.
In a meeting with Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh in Tehran on Saturday, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed Tehran-Baku ties as friendly and excellent.
Ahmadinejad said that Tehran-Baku cooperation is based on brotherhood and religion, stressing that Iran and Azerbaijan have always stood by each other and would continue to do so.
