In a meeting with Tajikistan's Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi in Tehran on Wednesday, Ahmadinejad added that Tehran and Dushanbe should always stand by each other to improve their cordial relations.
“Iran and Tajikistan share the same destiny, therefore Iran's progress is [regarded as] Tajikistan’s progress,” the Iranian president said.
He expressed hope that the exchange of visits by senior Iranian and Tajik officials would lead to the further expansion of relations.
Zarifi, for his part, said Iran and Tajikistan have extensive relations in various arenas, expressing hope that the two countries would witness the further enhancement of ties in the future.
Earlier in the day, the Tajik foreign minister held talks with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi. During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the region, including the ongoing crisis in Syria, as well as ways to upgrade bilateral ties.
