Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a meeting with United Nations Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Valery Amos in Tehran on Sunday, voiced Iran’s preparedness to further expand Iran-UN regional cooperation.

“In view of Iran’s record of cooperation and satisfactory interactions with the UN on humanitarian and emergency relief assistance for refugees, including in Afghanistan and Iraq, we are ready to further expand and broaden our cooperation,” Zarif said today.

The UN undersecretary, for her part, pointed to her good and successful negotiations in Tehran, and thanked Iran for its efforts to supply humanitarian and emergency relief assistance to its neighboring countries, including Afghanistan

Amos arrived in Tehran on Friday to hold talks with senior Iranian officials.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said that Mrs. Amos’s visit would last until September 16.

“Mrs. Amos is expected to meet senior officials in Tehran. She will focus on expanding regional cooperation on humanitarian assistance and enhancing the partnership between Iran and the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA),” he noted.
