The Turkish diplomat made the remarks at a Sunday meeting with Ebrahim Aqa-Mohammadi and Mansour Haqiqatpour, two members of Iran’s Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in Tehran.
Yardim pointed to the two-day trip by Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek to Iran and expressed optimism that the visit will consolidate the friendly ties between the two countries.
Cicek arrived in Tehran on Saturday at the head of a high-ranking parliamentary delegation upon an invitation by his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani.
Haqiqatpour, for his part, pointed to the numerous commonalities between Iran and Turkey and called for the promotion of the interaction between the national security committees of the Iranian and Turkish parliaments.
Aqa-Mohammadi also underlined the need for utilizing the existing potentials and opportunities, particularly in the economic arena, for the promotion of bilateral ties.
“The enhancement of relations between Iran and Turkey, as two important countries in the region, will play a key role in maintaining the security and stability of the Middle East,” he said.
