Persepolis football team booked a place in the Iran’ Hazfi Cup quarterfinals after beating Hamedan-based Alvand on Friday.

The Iranian giant beat the Iranian first division Alvand 2-0 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

Reza Haghighi gave Persepolis a 13th minute lead with a long-range deflected shot that beat Alvand's goalkeeper Hadi Zarrin-Saed.

Omid Alishah extended Persepolis’ lead with a header in the 68th minute.

Reza Haghighi was chosen as the best player of the match.

“I think we won a game we deserved to win. We could have scored more goals but our strikers didn’t advantage of their chances,” Persepolis coach Ali Daei said in the post match news conference.

Persepolis qualified for the quarterfinals and will play winner of the match between Foolad Khuzestan and Foolad Novin.

The Hazfi Cup is a knockout cup competition in Iranian football, run by the Iranian Football Federation.

The competition was founded in 1975. Esteghlal has won the cup on the most occasions, with 6 wins.
