“The possibility exists for the talks between Iran and the P5+1 (the six powers) to continue to Saturday,” Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-e Ravanchi told reporters in Geneva on Friday.
The talks, which started on Wednesday, had initially been scheduled to end on Friday.
Takht-e Ravanchi described the latest meeting between Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, as “good and positive.”
“However, the discussions continue and the EU foreign policy chief is in talks with the P5+1 and we are also doing internal consultations,” he said.
The Iranian diplomat declined to comment about the possible outcome of the negotiations, but noted that the viewpoints of both sides have become closer.
Iran and the six countries are working to hammer out an interim deal to pave the ground for the resolution of the West’s decade-old standoff with Iran over its nuclear energy program.
The Iranian team says discussions have already delved into content and details, however, differences remain between the two sides.
