Ayatollah Khamenei on Saturday agreed to pardon and commute jail terms of 878 prisoners on the occasion of the birth anniversaries of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and the sixth Shiite Imam, Imam Jafar Sadeq (AS).
The amnesty was granted upon a request by Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani and approval of the Supreme Leader.
The 17th day of the lunar Islamic month of Rabi al-Awwal marks the birth anniversaries of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and Imam Jafar Sadeq (AS).
