Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano, in a meeting in Munich on Sunday, reviewed ways for closer cooperation between Tehran and the agency.

In their meeting which was held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the pair reviewed Iran-IAEA cooperation over Tehran's peaceful nuclear program.

Iran announced on Wednesday that inspectors of the IAEA were paying a visit to Gachin uranium mine in Southern Iran.

The inspection took place in line with a joint agreement signed on November 11 by Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi and the IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano on bilateral cooperation.

The agreement allows the IAEA inspectors to voluntarily visit Arak heavy water plant in central Iran and Gachin mine in Bandar Abbas.

“Three IAEA inspectors who had traveled to Tehran to visit Gachin mine in Bandar Abbas yesterday are now visiting the mine and the visit is expected to end this afternoon,” AEOI Spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi told FNA.

Kamalvandi reiterated that the visits are being paid in the form of "managed access", and said, “The IAEA inspectors had a meeting with AEOI Director for Safeguards Affairs Mohammad Amiri yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.”

Inspectors of the IAEA also visited Arak heavy water facilities in December.

Kamalvandi announced in December that according to reports, the IAEA inspectors were “happy with their visit to Arak heavy water facilities.”

He said by allowing the IAEA inspections from Iranian facilities, Tehran is to build confidence and remove concerns of the other side.

He believed that the concerns were only felt by certain members of the UN nuclear watchdog and not by all.

However, he stressed no more inspections would be made after Arak and Gachin visits.
