Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a meeting with his Qatari counterpart Muhammad Bin Mubarak Bin Saleh al-Khalifi underlined the necessity for further consultations between Tehran and Doha to reinvigorate their bilateral relations.

During the meeting which was held on the sidelines of the 9th Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States' Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tehran on Wednesday, the Iranian speaker said that continued consultations in different fields of interest will help strengthen bilateral ties.

Larijani characterized Iran-Qatar ties as age-old and brotherly, and said that fortunately, the two countries enjoy sustainable ties in line with their national interests.

Al-Khalifi, for his part, said that Tehran-Doha’s relations are excellent, saying that the new Qatari Emir like his father favors further development of ties and cooperation between Tehran and Doha.

Both Iran and Qatar have recently augmented efforts to further expand ties and cooperation in all the different political, economic, defense, security and cultural fields.

The two Persian Gulf littoral states recently signed several protocols to increase mutual cooperation.
