The sanctions may follow Russia’s move to re-join with its former Crimean region after the latter voted to secede from Ukraine on March 16. The source said restrictions on Russia will probably be debated at the upcoming EU summit, RIA reported.
The meeting of 28 EU nations’ leaders is slated for March 20 and 21 in Brussels, starting with discussions on the situation in Ukraine on Thursday.
The European Union has already slapped two rounds of sanctions on Russia, including a halt on the basic bilateral agreement and the easing of visa regime, followed by a freeze on Russian assets.
Brussels has warned that economic restrictions will be the third stage of anti-Russia crackdown.
