United made signing former Arsenal captain Fabregas their number one priority last summer, but despite making three different bids, Barca refused to sell.
The deal eventually collapsed and United have been looking elsewhere, but less than 12 months later, it could be back on with Barca said to be ready to part with the midfielder, Metro reported.
According to various reports in Spain, Fabregas has been told that he will be part of a squad clear out this summer and if a suitable offer arrives he can leave.
Fabregas has failed to impress since re-joining boyhood club Barca, having found himself playing out of position on many occasions.
United are thought to value the Spain star at about £25million and could now make a new bid at the end of the season, in the hope he can fill their creative midfield void.
Manchester City and United Battle for Pedro
Manchester United and Manchester City are set for a summer transfer tussle for Barcelona’s Pedro, Daily Star reported.
The Spain international has long been considered as one of the Catalans’ top talents, but he has struggled for first-team action this term.
Barca coach Tata Martino has been keen to integrate Neymar into his team alongside Lionel Messi, which has left Pedro battling with Alexis Sanchez for the final role in the attacking three.
The Chilean has often come out on top in this duel, which has irked the 26-year-old World Cup winner.
According to FIFA agent Francois Gallardo, Pedro is ready to leave the Nou Camp after growing frustrated:
“Pedro is very angry this season. The player is in a difficult situation and may be sold. This has alerted United and City, who are keen to offer him an escape route.”
It is rumoured that a fee of £25m may be enough to snap up the versatile attacker, yet much relies on the outcome of Barca’s appeal against a transfer ban imposed by FIFA.
Bayern Munich are also interested, with Pep Guardiola – who coached Pedro while in charge of the La Liga champions – known to be an admirer of the player.
