Gholam-Reza Mehrdad said liquid fuel has no advantage for power plants, adding that natural gas is clean and low-cost, SHANA reported on Monday.
He said that the Petroleum Ministry will have big reserves of liquid fuel if all power plants are fed with gas.
Mehrdad said liquid fuel costs power plants twice the amount of natural gas.
Iran’s Petroleum Ministry has instructed power plants to switch to natural gas by March 2016, managing-director of National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company said recently.
Mostafa Kaskhouli said the power plants’ shift from liquid fuel to natural gas will save fuel waste.
NIOPDC supplied over $27b liters of liquid fuel to power plants last Iranian year (ended March 2014), up five billion liters compared to the previous year, he said.
Kashkouli said 250 million liters of oil products are being consumed in the country every day.
