Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani voiced concern about the Palestinian people's dire conditions, and said they need basic necessities and weapons to defend themselves.

"The clear need of Palestine is its need to weapons and basic necessities and Iran plays an important role in meeting the clear needs of the Palestinian people," Larijani said, addressing a gathering on the situation in Palestine in Tehran on Wednesday.

He referred to the Inter-Parliamentary Union troika meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Tehran on Tuesday to discuss the dire conditions of the Palestinian people in Gaza, and said, "At the meeting, dispatch of medicine and medical equipment to the Gaza people through the Red Crescent Societies was discussed."

He said that the Palestinians injured in the savage Israeli attacks can also be transferred to Iran and other countries which are capable of treating them.

In relevant remarks on Tuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani condemned the recent Israeli attacks on the defenseless Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and said Tel Aviv does not allow Iran's medical help to reach the Palestinians.

"They (the Israelis) kill children, women and the elderly people and unfortunately do no allow us to help them," President Rouhani said.

He noted that Iran is ready to send medicine and medical teams to Gaza to treat the wounded people, and said, "We are ready to accept the injured Palestinians in Iranian hospitals."

Israel has been pounding the blockaded Gaza for 16 consecutive days, killing at least 670 people and injuring more than 4,000 others.
