The Iranian national volleyball team lost to US in USAV Cup series in straight sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-19) on Saturday before a crowd of 3,610 at the Bren Center at UC Irvine.

Iran took one while World League title-holder US completed the series with three victories.

“I hope the fans enjoyed the volleyball,” said US head coach John Speraw. “I hope they learned to love the game because there is great volleyball in the United States and here in Southern California.”

Iran lost its first two matches 3-1 (27-25,25-21, 27-29, 25-17) and 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-21) and defeated US 3-2 (24-26, 26-24, 25-27, 25-20, 15-9) in the four-match series held in Southern California.

The two teams will meet again during pool play for the FIVB World Championship on Aug. 30-Sept. 21 in Poland.

The US Men and Iran will also share a pool during the 2015 FIVB World League, meaning the US team will travel to Iran to play two matches.
