"I pray to God for your health and success as well as prosperity of the Saudi government and nation," President Rouhani said in his message to King Abdullah on the occasion of the Saudi National Day on Monday.
The Iranian president also wished that in light of unity and consensus and by utilizing the two nations' deep-rooted religious, cultural and historical commonalities, the brotherly relations between the two states would be expanded day by day.
Both Tehran and Riyadh have recently boosted efforts to remove their differences over regional developments, and meantime, have sought to improve their ties, in various political, economic, and tourism fields.
Last month, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian was in Riyadh to confer with senior Saudi officials on the latest regional developments and explore new avenues for improving bilateral relations between the two oil-rich Muslim nations.
Amir Abdollahian and Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal in a meeting in Jeddah discussed the latest developments in the region, including extremism and Israeli brutalities in Gaza, and explored new avenues for improving all-out bilateral relations.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed regional issues, including threats posed to the Islamic Ummah such as the Israeli regime’s atrocities against Palestinians of the war-torn Gaza Strip.
They also stressed the opening of a new page in bilateral political relations and the expansion of ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
In August, Iran's envoy to the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) said Amir Abdollahian had had positive meetings with Saudi officials in Jeddah.
"Amir Abdollahian's meetings with the Saudi officials were effective, positive and promising and even better than what was expected and the most important thing is that we are stepping on the correct path," the Lebanese newspaper As-Safir quoted Iran's Ambassador to the PGCC Hamid Reza Dehqani as saying.
He noted that Amir Abdollahian's visit to Saudi Arabia was a necessity due to recent developments in the region, including Israel's savage attacks on the people of Gaza and the ongoing anti-terrorism campaign in the region.
