"These countries are suffering from the destructive consequences of these policies and if they do apply serious changes to their previous policies the scope of these threats will further expand," Zarif said in a meeting with his Cypriot counterpart Ioanis Kasoulidis in New York on Sunday.
The Iranian foreign minister underlined that the short-sighted policies of the western countries and their regional allies have resulted in the strengthening of terrorist groups in the Middle East.
The Cypriot foreign minister, for his part, called Iran's views on the threat of terrorism and confronting it as accurate, and said, "The present situation in the region is worrying.
He noted that certain countries that were trying to change the governments of other countries by resorting to different means and interfering in their internal affairs have supported groups have spread terrorism and insecurity in the region.
Meantime, Kasoulidis pointed to the ongoing talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, France and Britain plus Germany), and expressed the hope that the current negotiations would lead to a satisfactory solution which would guarantee Iran's basic rights.
On Sunday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a meeting with Chairman of the Kenyan parliament's National Security and Foreign Relations Commission Mohammad Yusuf Haji blasted the world powers for their lack of firmness in fighting terrorist groups.
"The world powers lack a serious and real will for fighting the ominous phenomenon of terrorism and use it as an instrument to achieve their goals," Larijani said during the meeting in Tehran.
He lambasted the world powers for their double-standard policies on terrorism, and said, "Serious will and cooperation among the officials of independent countries is the way of fighting terrorism."
Haji, for his part, confirmed Larijani's remarks on the world powers lack of seriousness in fighting terrorist groups, and said, "Interference in other countries' internal affairs and using their natural resources are among the goals pursued by these countries' approach to terrorist groups in different parts of the world."
