Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned that politicized campaign against terrorism can bring about more threats and dangers for the international peace than terrorism itself.

In a meeting with his Emirati counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the top Iranian diplomat called for comprehensive measures to prevent the derailment of the battle against terrorism and extremism.

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed the crimes perpetrated by the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in Iraq and warned against the spread of such terror operations to other Middle-Eastern states.

“This threat is against all countries in the region, and that is why broad cooperation is needed among all regional states to take serious action against it (Takfiri threat),” Zarif noted.

On Monday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said before leaving Tehran for New York that the regional governments and nations are capable of resolving their problems without any need to the trans-regional powers that are looking to increase their dominance over the region.

"The regional problems should be resolved by the nations and governments of the region and if other powers want to make use of terrorism and dominate the region they are badly mistaken," President Rouhani said.
