Iran's Vice-President Mohammad Shariatmadari attended the inaugural ceremony of Afghanistan's new President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai which started in Kabul this morning.

Shariatmadari attended the oath taking ceremony of Afghan new president on behalf of President Hassan Rouhani who is in Russia to participate in the 4th summit of the Caspian Sea littoral states.

During his one-day visit to Afghanistan, Shariatmadari will meet with the new president, Executive Chairman of the new government Abdullah Abdullah as well as the outgoing president Hamid Karzai.

Shariatmadari, before departure, underlined Iran's full and permanent support for maintaining of peace, stability and tranquility in Afghanistan.

He further added that restoration of peace and security to Afghanistan makes it possible to have more economic and technical cooperation with this country.

Earlier this month, President Rouhani extended his congratulations to the newly-elected Afghan President on winning the country's presidential elections.

"I sincerely congratulate you on winning the presidential election in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan," wrote President Rouhani in his message to Ahmadzai.
