Talking to reporters after a cabinet session, Zarif said a political Canadian delegation is currently in Tehran to have discussions on holding presidential elections for Iranians in Canada.
Touching upon his talks over phone with his Canadian counterpart Chrystia Freeland on Tuesday, Zarif said according to Canadian laws, casting votes should be held at diplomatic centers.
He added that Ottawa severed its political relations with Tehran during the previous Iranian government and Iran does not have diplomatic presence in Canada.
Zarif said his Canadian counterpart told him that she would like to see Iranians in Canada to take part in the elections but needed procedures have not been set in place.
Pointing to his recent visit to Pakistan, Zarif said fruitful negotiations were conducted with Pakistani officials on border security.
He added that the Pakistani government has promised to boost security at its border areas with Iran.
'We hope that Islamabad will properly fulfill its duties and prevent terror actions against Iran by bandits from Pakistan,' said Zarif.
