Iranian steel mills produced a total of 9.1 million tons of crude steel in the first four months of 2022, registering an 8.9% decline compared with the corresponding period of 2021.
A new report released by the World Steel Association shows Iran's April output hit 2.2 million tons, down by 20.7% year-on-year.
In terms of world ranking, Iran maintained its global standing as the world’s 10th biggest crude steelmaker.
China was the world’s largest producer during the four-month period with 336.2 million tons of steel output, down 10.3% YOY. It was followed by India with 42.3 million tons (up 6.5%), Japan with 30.5 million tons (down 3.3%), the United States with 27.1 million tons (down 1.7%), Russia with 25.1 million tons (down 0.7%), South Korea with 22.4 million tons (down 4%), Germany with 13.1 million tons (down 3%) and Turkey with 12.8 million tons (down 3.2%).
Iran is placed after Brazil (ninth) with 11.6 million tons (down 1.7% YOY).
The world’s 64 steelmakers produced 619.1 million tons of steel in the four months under review, down 7.1% YOY. Countries located in Asia and Oceania collectively produced 452.6 million tons of the total.
