The top Syrian diplomat also condemned Western countries for exploiting international mechanisms for their own political purposes.
In addition to the HRC resolution, Mekdad and Iran FM Hossein Amirabdollahian discussed Tehran-Damascus relations as well as regional and international developments.
That resolution, adopted on November 24 at the HRC special session on Iran, addressed what it described as “the deteriorating human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran” in the wake of the recent rights in the country.
Iran dismissed the resolution as a “political scam”, expressing regret that the Human Rights Council is being misused by a group of bulling governments.
Iran says the riots are backed by certain Western countries including the UK and the US.
