‘Zionist regime crossed all international laws, red lines by Gaza genocide’

The Zionist regime has crossed all the red lines under international laws and regulations by its genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman says.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Monday, Nasser Kanaani said the Zionist regime has waged more than twenty wars in the region and has occupied parts of Palestine and Lebanon.

“This regime has committed war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide many times,” he said, calling on all governments around the world to pursue theh “Zionist criminals” through international legal channels.

“Twenty-four days have passed since the beginning of the brutal attacks of the Zionist regime on the Gaza Strip, and in these attacks, and this regime has crossed all the red lines and international laws and regulations,” he maintained.

Kanaani then commemorated Mahmoud Darwish, a Palestinian poet and author, and quoted him as saying, “We (the Palestinians) are the victims against whom every kind of killing, even with the latest weapons, has been tested. But we are a miracle that does not die and cannot die!”

He also expressed hopes that “we will soon witness the victory of the Palestinian nation over this aggressor regime and its supporters who violate human rights.”

Legal action against Zionist regime

Kanaani also pointed to launching a legal action against the criminal Zionist regime, noting that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian emphasized in his speech at the United Nations a few days ago that the regime committed war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity in several occasions; so, all governments are considered responsible to pursue legal action against the criminals of the Israeli regime.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has for years called on the international community to set up a committee to probe into the war crimes committed by the Zionist regime, the spokesman said.

Iran has recently proposed at the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation that they are expected to establish a specialized committee, comprising of international legal experts, under the supervision of the organization to document the Zionist regime’s war crimes in previous years, and more importantly during the ongoing war against the Gaza Strip to provide international entities such as the International Court of Justice with evidence to bring the regime to justice.

Latest news on Iran humanitarian aid to Gaza

Since the onset of the crisis, Iran has been determined to send humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, Kanaani said.

We have stressed stopping the Zionists’ military attacks as the first priority, lifting the oppressive sanctions and opening the international crossings to send humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza is also a priority, he added.

We have followed up these issues with the Egyptian authorities in two rounds of telephone conversations in connection with the International Red Cross, he noted.

Unfortunately, grounds have been prepared in a way that we can witness a positive development at the Rafah border, he pointed out.

The Zionist regime has rejected the request of the international community regarding the opening of Rafah crossing to send humanitarian aid to Gaza, he added.

Our officials are still in contact with Egyptian officials and Iran is ready to dispatch these aids through Egypt as soon as possible, Kanaani stressed.

Kanaani to Kamala Harris: ‘Stop it!’

Elsewhere in the presser, Kanaani was asked to comment on a recent warning against the Islamic Republic by US Vice President Kamala Harris. “Stop it!” he quipped.

In an interview with CBS News published on Sunday, Harris was asked what her message to Iran was, to which she said: “Don’t ... One word. Pretty straightforward.”

On a claim by US authorities that Iran is carrying out attacks in Iraq against American interests, Kanaani said, “You reap what you sow. Supporting tension in the region will lead to reactions, and this is something we have stated many times in our official positions and messages.”

Speaking about the need for a ceasefire against the oppressed Palestinian people, he said, “As I said, ending the barbaric aggression of the Zionist regime and [reaching] a ceasefire is Iran’s number one priority.”

He added that considering the Zionist regime’s failure to fulfill global calls for a ceasefire, the international community should increase its pressure on the occupying regime so as to forced it to accept a ceasefire.

Iran’s initiative on Gaza war

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman referred to the Islamic Republic’s initiatives for releasing prisoners, noting that certain countries said their citizens are among the captives in Gaza, who are neither Israeli citizens nor part of the ongoing conflict between the warring sides; so, Iranian and Hamas officials discussed the issue and the resistance movement promised to take action in this regard.

Despite the fact that Hamas carried out humanitarian actions in recent days, the Palestinians are not ready to keep on showing good will amid the continuous attacks on Gaza; however, Iran continues holding consultations with the Palestinian side to this end, he argued.

Moreover, the top Iranian diplomat conducts consultations with foreign ministers from Qatar and Saudi Arabia in a bid to find a solution and put pressure on the Zionist regime to halt its relentless strikes on the Palestinian people.

Touching upon Iran's vote on the recent resolution of the United Nations General Assembly regarding ceasefire in Gaza, Kanaani said that Iran voted in favor of the resolution thanks to the importance of supporting the Palestinian people and putting an end to the Israeli attacks; however, the Islamic Republic expressed its considerations in the final statement of the session.

Iran-Iraq security agreement

Iran-Iraq security agreement was supposed to be implemented until September 19, and the Iraqi authorities also submitted reports to Iran on what they did in the form of fulfilling the provisions of this agreement, Kanaani said.

The talks and field visits are still ongoing and we do not have a definite opinion on whether the provisions of this agreement have been fully implemented or not.

We urge complete disarmament of the hostile groups present in Iraq and this issue until the fulfillment of all the provisions of the agreement.

Ali Bagheri Kani’s visit to Moscow

Kanaani said that the trip was arranged in advance and in line with the ongoing talks between the two sides to develop interactions between Iran and Russia.

The agenda of this trip were bilateral issues, South Caucasus and the developments in the occupied territories, he stated.

Kanaani also elaborated on the cooperation among the Caspian Sea states.

Omani Sultan’s initiative continues

Regarding the rumors of the JCPOA talks meeting being cancelled, Kanaani said that discussions are ongoing within the established framework and under the initiative of the Omani Sultan.

He also said that the Palestine issue may delay other matters but assured that the JCPOA talks remain dynamic. Kanaani added that if need be, updates will be made public.

Kanaani also addressed the FATF issue, stating that a transparency mechanism is in place at the national level. However, he noted that FATF operates under its own mechanisms and promised to provide information as needed.
