Top Iranian, Irish diplomats discuss Gaza war

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Irish counterpart Micheál Martin on Monday discussed the current developments in West Asia, particularly the Israeli war on Gaza, which Iran has described as a genocide against the Palestinian people in the besieged territory.

Ireland’s foreign minister said that what is required at the current time is an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, as well as respect to international law. People in Gaza should also have access to humanitarian assistance as soon as possible, he added.

Micheál Martin also demanded Iran help in the release of an Irish national who is among dozens of captives held by Palestinian resistance movement Hamas in Gaza.

Amirabdollahian, who has been pushing for diplomatic efforts aimed at supporting the Palestinians in Gaza, said that Hamas has agreed to release civilian captives, which will be carried out when conditions are ripe.

The Israeli regime said on Sunday that nearly 240 people are held by Hamas. The movement captured them on October 7 as part of its Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the Israeli regime
