Official: Iran to start construction of Rasht-Astara railway soon

Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister Shahriar Afandi-Zadeh said that Iran will take loan from the Russian government for construction of Rasht-Astara railway and based on the agreement the project will start at the beginning of 2024.

Speaking in a TV program, Afandi-Zadeh said that there are two major projects in the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, one is the National Housing Movement for building four million housing units within four years, and the second is the Iran Road project for connecting the North-South and East-West corridors, in which Iran can play a major role.

Minister of Roads and Urban Development proposed 'Iran Road' project at the tripartite meeting of Iran, India and Russia, he said adding that the project can create a huge capacity for the regional countries and important countries in the world.

Iran is connected with 15 countries by water or land and there are also Central Asian countries that are landlocked, he noted.

With this project, all Central Asian countries can easily connect to open waters, he said.

The North-South Corridor discusses the issue of Russia towards Iran and India and especially the Central Asian countries towards the Persian Gulf states and the Sea of ​​Oman, he stated.

On the other hand, the East-West Axis, China towards Europe can play a major role for Iran's important capacity, Afandi-Zadeh said.
