Pakistan welcomes Iran’s proposal to facilitate release of inmates in both countries

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has welcomed the proposal of Iran’s Deputy Justice Minister for International Affairs Askar Jalalian to facilitate the release of prisoners from both countries with a humanitarian approach.

Jalalian met and held talks with Tarar in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Thursday.

The two sides exchanged views on the latest developments related to bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan, especially in the jurisdiction, legal, and consular areas.

Jalalian said that there are currently 160 Pakistanis in Iranian prisons and 60 Iranian prisoners are being held in Pakistan.

Proposing the release of prisoners from both countries, he said that Iran is ready to release Pakistani prisoners in Iran for humanitarian reasons in the first step.

The Pakistani side welcomed the Iranian side's offer and assured that Islamabad is ready for any cooperation with Tehran.
