Iran’s attack on Israeli regime within framework of legitimate defense: FM Amirabdollahian

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that his country’s military action against the Israeli regime was in response to its aggression on the Iranian consulate in Syria and was within the framework of legitimate defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The top Iranian diplomat made the comments in a phone talk with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on Saturday evening.

Since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been trying to prevent the spillover of the conflict in the region, while emphasizing the need for a halt to the regime’s crimes against Palestinians, Amirabdollahian said.

At the same time, he added, Iran has been stating his serious determination to deal with any act of aggression against its interests, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Turkish foreign minister said on his part that the perpetuation of the Gaza war coupled with the Israeli attack on Iran’s Syria embassy, which he said was in violation of international laws, increased the risk of the expansion of the conflict and insecurity in the region.

Fidan added that Turkiye will continue efforts to help prevent the expansion of insecurity and its threats for the entire region and the world.
