"Iran is making serious efforts at the global level to advance international goals related to a clean Earth," Kanaani said in a social media post on Sunday ahead of World Earth Day.

"....respect for the environment is one of the ancient Iranian values and traditions. Combating natural environmental disasters and their destructive consequences requires regional and international cooperation," he added.

The spokesman said Iran places special emphasis on planning and cooperation with other countries to tackle  environmental challenges, including dust storms, floods, and drought.

He also condemned the Israeli regime's organized destruction of the environment in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as a tool to put pressure on Palestinians.
