Israeli protesters have blocked the street leading to the residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the occupied city of al-Quds to vent their anger at his policies on the Gaza war.

The protesters took to the streets of occupied al-Quds on Sunday, chanting slogans against Netanyahu and demanding him accept the second phase of a ceasefire deal with the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, in order for the remaining Israeli prisoners to be released, Al Jazeera reported.

During the second phase, which the two sides have yet to negotiate, Hamas was due to release dozens of remaining Israeli prisoners in return for the regime’s pullout from Gaza and a lasting ceasefire.

Israel however said that it would instead accept a proposal made by the United States to extend the first phase of the ceasefire deal that came into force on January 19.

Earlier on Sunday, Israel also stopped the entry of all humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, a day after the first phase expired, citing Hamas’ refusal to accept the U.S. proposal.

The regime threatened Hamas with “additional consequences” if it continues to reject the proposal. Netanyahu also told his cabinet that Israel could resume fighting after the first phase if it believes negotiations are ineffective. He said Israel was “full coordinated” with U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, according to the Associated Press news agency.

Hamas accused Israel of derailing the ceasefire agreement, saying that the regime’s decision to cut off humanitarian aid is “cheap extortion, a war crime and a blatant attack on the agreement.”
