Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says that Tehran’s decision to avoid direct talks with Washington is a response to U.S.’s bullying and threats against Iran.

Araqchi emphasized that Iran would not negotiate under threats, adding that Iran has always been, and continues to be, ready for negotiations based on equal footing.

Addressing the answer to the letter from the United States, he said that Oman had informed Iranian officials that the letter had reached its intended recipients. He expressed hope that the outcome would align with Iran's best interests.

On March 12, US President Donald Trump sent a letter to Iran via an emissary from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). While the content of the letter has not been disclosed, Trump said he urged Iran to open negotiations for a “new deal” and warned of potential military action if Tehran refused.
