Iran and Afghanistan’s acting government have called for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss practical measures to end Israel's military aggression against Gaza and ways to support the Palestinian people.

In a phone call on Sunday, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi condemned war crimes and genocide committed by Israel in Gaza, and stressed the need for a coordinated Islamic response.

The two sides urged immediate humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza and emphasized the urgency of convening the OIC session to take effective and practical decisions to stop the violence.

They also discussed bilateral matters, including Iran’s water rights, cross-border cooperation, consular engagement, and facilitating the gradual and dignified return of Afghan immigrants from Iran.

Citing shared religious, historical, and cultural ties, both top diplomats highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue and expanded regional cooperation based on mutual interests.
