In an advisory opinion delivered on Wednesday, the ICJ said that Israel, as an “occupying power”, has no jurisdiction to exercise sovereignty over the West Bank and al-Quds, in reference to an annexation plan approved by the Knesset earlier today.

Yuji Iwasawa, a prominent Japanese lawyer and the current president of the ICJ, also criticized the Tel Aviv regime for terminating cooperation with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

He called for Israel to facilitate all relief programs for Palestinians living in the occupied territories, saying the Court unanimously believes Israel, as an occupying power, is obliged to implement its legal obligations.

Iwasawa also announced that there was a unanimous decision on the prohibition of the use of starvation as a weapon of war, referring to Israel’s banning of UNRWA, the main provider of aid to Gaza, from operating there.

Israel “is under the obligation to agree to and facilitate relief schemes provided by the United Nations and its entities, including UNRWA,” he added.
