Putin: Russia and Iran Are Holding Talks on Gas and Electricity

The Russian president, in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, stressed that relations between Tehran and Moscow are developing at a strong pace.

According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, Vladimir Putin, during his talks with Masoud Pezeshkian, expressed satisfaction with the meeting and said that Russia and Iran are negotiating potential cooperation in the gas and electricity sectors.

At the start of the meeting, he stated: “At the outset, I would like to ask you to convey my warm greetings to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei…”

Putin noted that “relations between Tehran and Moscow are developing at a good speed,” adding that bilateral trade grew by 13 percent last year and by 8 percent in the first nine months of the current year.

He emphasized that Russia and Iran are cooperating in several areas, including the Bushehr nuclear power plant, infrastructure development, and the International North–South Transport Corridor.

Putin also underlined that the two sides remain in close contact on major international issues. He added that Russia’s position on Iran’s nuclear program is well known and that Moscow supports Iran at the United Nations.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the International Conference on Peace and Trust being held in Turkmenistan.
