According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, The meeting followed high-level understandings reached between the presidents of the two countries and was aimed at removing existing obstacles and advancing the International North–South Transport Corridor into its operational phase. The corridor is regarded as a key axis for Eurasian connectivity and a significant factor in reshaping regional geopolitics.
During the talks, the two sides reviewed the strategic, economic, and geopolitical dimensions of the North–South Corridor, emphasizing its role in creating independent and sustainable routes for transportation and trade between the northern and southern parts of the region.
Dr. Larijani underscored Iran’s firm decision to operationalize the corridor, stating that all existing executive and institutional barriers would be removed in the near future, and that the necessary agreements would be concluded to ensure a solid legal and operational framework for the project. He also referred to the commitment of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, noting that, under the close follow-up of President Masoud Pezeshkian, all land located along the corridor’s route would be acquired by the government by the end of the year, enabling the project to move forward without interruption and with full coherence.
For his part, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Iran’s decisive and well-structured approach and announced Moscow’s readiness to accelerate the project and promptly enter the implementation phase. He described the corridor as an important pillar of long-term cooperation between the two countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized that the North–South Corridor is not merely an infrastructure project, but a core element of a shared Iranian–Russian strategy aimed at consolidating sustainable cooperation, strengthening regional connectivity, and reducing reliance on traditional transit routes. Accordingly, it was agreed that high-level follow-up mechanisms would be activated and coordination among relevant institutions in both countries would continue on a regular basis.
