Meeting Between Araghchi and Senior Russian Lawmakers in Moscow

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held talks with senior Russian lawmakers on the first day of his visit to Moscow, meeting representatives from the country’s two main parliamentary bodies as part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations.

According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, The meeting, held on Tuesday and hosted by Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma, brought together Araghchi with heads of parliamentary committees and leaders of Iran–Russia parliamentary friendship groups from both the State Duma and the Federation Council, Russia’s upper house. Discussions focused on expanding political and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Welcoming the Iranian foreign minister and his delegation, Slutsky described the talks as a continuation of close interactions between Moscow and Tehran, aimed at addressing issues of mutual interest. He noted that bilateral trade has now exceeded five billion US dollars and reaffirmed Russia’s determination to further strengthen relations with Iran.

Araghchi, for his part, underlined Iran’s firm commitment to developing comprehensive relations with the Russian Federation. Expressing satisfaction at visiting the State Duma, he said parliamentary cooperation has been growing alongside bilateral ties in other fields.

During his stay in Moscow, the Iranian foreign minister is scheduled to continue consultations with Russian political and parliamentary figures, as well as policy experts. On Wednesday, he will also deliver a speech at MGIMO University, Russia’s leading institute for international relations, addressing faculty members and students.

According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Araghchi is set to hold an official meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov later on Wednesday. The talks will cover a range of international issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, as well as regional developments of shared interest to both sides.

In addition to his parliamentary meetings, Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi has an extensive schedule of consultations with Russian political and diplomatic officials during his visit to Moscow. One of the key events will be his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, scheduled for Wednesday. The two sides will discuss important international issues, including Iran's nuclear program, as well as regional matters and areas of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia.

Furthermore, the Iranian Foreign Minister has been invited to speak at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in front of faculty members and students. His lecture will focus on regional and global political developments, providing an opportunity for academic exchange and fostering dialogue between the intellectual communities of both countries.
