Iran's Revenue from the 2026 FIFA World Cup

FIFA’s Council has approved an unprecedented financial package for the 2026 World Cup, increasing the total prize money for participating teams to $727 million—around 50% higher than the Qatar 2022 tournament and a new record in the competition’s history.

According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, Under the approved plan, $655 million of the total amount will be allocated directly to performance-based prizes. The tournament champion will receive $50 million, while the runner-up will earn $33 million. The third- and fourth-placed teams will receive $29 million and $27 million, respectively.

Teams reaching the quarterfinals (positions five to eight) will each receive $19 million. Teams ranked ninth to 16th will earn $15 million, those placed 17th to 32nd will receive $11 million, and teams finishing 33rd to 48th will collect $9 million.

In addition, each qualified team will receive a separate $1.5 million to cover preparation costs. As a result, Iran’s national football team is guaranteed a minimum income of $10.5 million simply by participating in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The tournament will be jointly hosted across 16 cities in North America, including 11 cities in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada. This will mark the first time the World Cup is hosted by three countries.
