Iran to Host Trilateral Naval Exercise in the Open-Ocean Region

Iran’s Army Navy commander has announced that the country will host a trilateral naval exercise in the open-ocean region, an event he said is expected to pave the way for the participation of more countries in the near future.

According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, According to Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, the exercise has been planned as part of efforts to expand regional and transregional naval cooperation and is considered part of Iran’s Navy’s active presence in international events this year. He noted that in 1404 (2025), the Iranian Army Navy has taken part in more than ten international events, including joint naval drills.

The report adds that one of Iran’s naval task groups is currently en route to the location of an international exercise, and Iran is expected to join the drill in the coming days. Such exercises are held to enhance operational coordination, maritime security, and interaction among the naval forces of participating countries.

The commander also said that, in addition to participating in joint exercises, Iran has plans to host naval drills in the open-ocean region with the involvement of neighboring countries and international partners. The upcoming trilateral exercise was described as one of the most significant of these plans.

According to Iranian military officials, the main focus of these exercises is on the security of shipping lanes, maritime safety, and multilateral naval cooperation—issues that in recent years have become shared concerns among countries operating in international waters.
