According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, Reacting to the increased tariffs imposed by the US on Iran’s economic partners, he said: “The people of Iran have been under sanctions and unfair, illegal economic pressures from the US and some of its allies for over 75 years. This demonstrates the institutionalized animosity towards Iran’s existence in the US policymaking and political decision-making system.”
Baqaei, referring to the illegal and inhumane nature of US economic sanctions against Iran and their inherent conflict with the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law, including the foundations of international free trade between states, asserted: “The US economic sanctions, due to the violation and deprivation of the fundamental rights of each Iranian citizen, constitute a crime against humanity, and the sanctioning parties must be held accountable for the consequences of these crimes.”
He also warned of the dangerous effects of the US’s unilateral coercive measures on the international trade system and emphasized the responsibility of the United Nations and all its bodies, including the Secretary-General, to uphold the rule of law at the international level.
Baqaei concluded by affirming: “Undoubtedly, the Iranian nation, with its capabilities and valuable experiences in confronting aggression and unfair pressures, will continue its path of progress and development with strength.”
