Araghchi: U.S. Move to Hold UN Security Council Meeting is a “Flight Forward”

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, in a phone call with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, stated that the direct role of the Zionist regime in arming and organizing armed terrorists, along with U.S. support, is evident.

According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, Araghchi said the horrific crimes committed against security forces and civilians—including the killing of children and women, burning people alive, attacks on hospitals and medical centers, arson of ambulances and fire trucks, destruction of mosques and cultural centers—mirror ISIS terrorism. He called for the UN to condemn these crimes.

He criticized the U.S. move to hold a UN Security Council meeting on Iran’s internal developments as a “flight forward”—an attempt to mask its own crimes.

Araghchi emphasized that the U.S. government, responsible for the killing of thousands of Iranian citizens through unjust sanctions and military aggression, and complicit in the killing of hundreds during recent unrest, cannot hide its crimes by convening the Security Council.

He added that countries with a long history of systematic human rights violations and complicity in the genocide of Palestinians lack any credibility or standing to pretend concern for Iranians.

Guterres, in the call, stressed the importance of respecting fundamental human rights and condemned any intervention in the internal affairs of other countries, especially military intervention, and emphasized the need to uphold the UN Charter, particularly the principle of non-use of force and threats.
