Iranian Wrestlers May Miss Croatia Ranking Event

Following UWW’s decision to remove Iranian wrestlers from the initial entry list for the Croatia Ranking Series, Saeid Yousefi, Director of International Relations at the Iran Wrestling Federation, provided clarification regarding the absence of Iranian athletes’ names from UWW’s registration system.

According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, The Iran Wrestling Federation announced that the names of Iran’s national team wrestlers selected for the Croatia Ranking Series have been submitted to United World Wrestling (UWW), and the team will participate in the tournament if visas are issued.

Yousefi explained that once wrestlers’ names are entered into the system, the federation is required to pay hotel costs of approximately €220 per wrestler per day. He noted that immediately after the registration system closes, the submitted names are automatically forwarded for hotel reservations. In the event that the team is ultimately unable to travel, the federation would incur significant financial losses.

He added that, to avoid this issue, and in coordination with United World Wrestling, it was agreed that the wrestlers’ names would be entered into the system only when conditions for their participation in the Croatia Ranking Series are fully secured. According to Yousefi, there is no problem with this arrangement.

The Iran Wrestling Federation is currently following up on visa issuance through relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Iranian ambassador to Croatia, and United World Wrestling. The goal is to ensure the participation of Iranian wrestlers in the competition, which is considered one of the key stages in the national team selection process.
