An Iranian lawmaker says Muslim countries should file a complaint with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) against the Israeli military for the offensive on the Gaza Strip.

“The assault on Gaza is an opportunity which has been created for the Zionist regime [of Israel] in the Syria issue and naturally it will not be limited merely to Gaza,” member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Javad Jahangirzadeh said Friday.

He went on to say it has been predicted that the Israeli regime would continue its attacks until reaching Syria.

At least 25 Palestinians have been killed in the new wave of Israeli attacks on the blockaded Gaza Strip since November 14. At least 250 people have been injured so far.

Following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement that the military was preparing for a “significant widening” of its attacks against the blockaded coastal strip, the Tel Aviv regime has called up 30,000 army reservists, preparing 16,000 for a possible ground invasion of Gaza.

The Iranian lawmaker urged Muslim countries to immediately lodge a complaint with the UNSC, adding, “Without a doubt we will go against the US on this matter and this will further show the [real] nature of America to the region.”

Jahangirzadeh pointed to Barack Obama’s declaration of support for the Zionist regime immediately after his reelection and following the attack on Gaza, saying this “shows US policies have not changed in the [Middle East] region.”

The Israeli regime conducts airstrikes and ground attacks against the besieged Palestinian territory on an almost regular basis. Gaza has been blockaded since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

The apartheid regime of Israel denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.
