Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad held talks on issues of mutual interests.

The two foreign ministers held phone talks Sunday afternoon to consult the latest circumstances concerning bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments.

Syria and Iran have a long political relationship. The government in Damascus urged Tehran to assist the Syrians in their fight against foreign-backed terrorism, which came out in 2011. Iran made all-out support for the Syrian government to defeat extremists and terrorists.
