German Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sebastian Fischer welcomed the latest agreement between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and said that it could help the two sides reach a major deal during the upcoming Iran nuclear talks

“Important progress has been made in the talks between Iranian officials and the IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano,” he said.

Iran and the IAEA reportedly agreed on a road map for further cooperation.

Asked if the IAEA-Iran deal could ultimately pave the way for sealing an agreement at the next round of international talks on Tehran’s nuclear program, Fischer replied anything that would help clarify the open questions was “certainly helpful”.

Three days of intensive ministerial negotiations over Iran’s nuclear standoff with the West failed to yield an agreement last week due to French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius blocking the progress in the talks.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) agreed to resume talks on an expert-level on November 20.

Meantime, the next round of talks between Iran and the IAEA is slated for December 11.
