Iran condemns attack on Quds Day demonstrators in Nigeria

Politics - Iran strongly condemned Fridayˈs armed attack on the Quds Day demonstrators in Nigeria which left 24 dead and 50 injured.

Reacting to the incident, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said Tehran considered the attack ˈunacceptableˈ and ˈcompletely against humanityˈ.

 

Police attacked the International Quds Dayˈs fasting demonstrators in the city of Zaria, in Kaduna State in Northern Nigeria, killing 24 and injuring 50 others.

 

According to reports, son of the leader of Nigerian Shiite Muslims, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, as well as a woman with a baby strapped to her back were among the victims.

 

ˈNigerian Muslims who staged rallies to demonstrate their support for the defenseless people of Palestine against crimes of the Zionist regime were targeted of unfair and merciless attacks just like the innocent people of Gaza,ˈ Afkham said.

 

She stressed that Tehran expected Abuja to be accountable towards the incident and arrest and punish its perpetrators soon.

 

The last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan was declared the International Quds Day by the Founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini, to demostrate support for the oppressed people of Palestine.

 

The Zionist regimeˈs brutal attacks on Gaza triggered outrage of the world public opinion.

 

Both Muslims and non-Muslims around the world, regardless of their religious and ethnic affiliations, have held massive rallies on Friday to demonstrate their support for Palestinians and the Resistance Movement.

 

Tel Aviv savage attacks on Gazans have, so far, left over 1000 dead and thousands of injured who are mostly women and children.
